How Do You Change a Car Tire?

Rotating tires

No matter if you’ve got a flat tire, treads that have worn down too far, or just need new tires because they’re at the end of their life, you’ll want to know “how do you change a car tire?” Thankfully, this process is relatively simple and many people can do it at home without having to see the service professionals at a place like Porsche Stratham. Still, if you’d rather get it done by the pros, you’ve got a team at Porsche Stratham who would be more than happy to help you out. Ask about our genuine OEM parts!

Getting Tires Changed at Home

If you don’t know how often to change tires, generally, you’ll want to change them out every 50,000 miles. If you place a penny into the tread of your tires and don’t see Abe Lincoln’s face, it’s time for a change too. You’ll need a jack, a lug wrench, your new tire(s), and your owner’s manual to help you out with this one. From there, just follow these steps:

  1. Move your Nashua or Portsmouth car to a safe place and turn on your hazards.
  2. Apply the parking brake and put the wheel wedges under the other tires.
  3. Remove the wheel cover or hubcap from the tire and loosen the lug nuts.
  4. Use a jack to lift up your vehicle and remove the lug nuts.
  5. Remove the current tire and mount the new or spare tire.
  6. Tighten the lug nuts in a star shaped order then lower the vehicle back to the ground.

How Often To Change Car Tires

We’ve mentioned earlier that the life of tires is typically about 50,000 miles. However, this can depend based on the quality of the tires and how often you get a tire rotation. You should check your tire pressure and treads regularly to be safe. If you find that your treads have gotten too thin, Porsche Stratham would be glad to help you find a new set of tires so you can get back on those Manchester roads.
