Why is the Porsche 911 called 911?
Why Is the Porsche 911 Called the Porsche 911? Porsche has a long history of giving its powerful sports cars interesting names. You already know where the Porsche logo comes from. Now find out why your popular Porsche model is named the 911 at Porsche Stratham!
The Porsche 911 Name
In 1963, Porsche introduced a new model, the Porsche 901. But then Porsche received a friendly but distinct letter from Peugeot, and our French colleagues claimed to have the legal rights for all car names with 3 figures and a “0” in the middle. Porsche had the idea to put gold letters with the car name on the dashboard and on the back of the car, and these letters were already produced, so they had the “9” and they had the “1”, and they just exchanged the “0” with another “1” and the name 911 was born.
